Funding the Thrileons: A Look at Our Sponsors
5. Flex Car
Short term cars for those who like to live flexibly. Who could dislike that? The company amassed its fortune by adhering to its core beliefs, which are to give freedom to those who are looking to drive on a budget. With revenues slightly under $5 million, the partnership is not one of Olympiacos's largest, but it does have an impact. Those who support the brand are promised that the company will "cover everything... except fuel." Sounds like a good deal to us.
4. Ticketmaster
If you're a Taylor Swift fan, I assume you will not like seeing this company as the number four on our list. However, the company still provides the ability to purchase tickets to events for the club, so we'd say it's pretty important. With revenue reported to be over $12.3 billion in 2022 (through November), which outpaces its previous most profitable year (2019) by 43%, it is expected that this partnership should continue for years to come, giving fans a (hopefully) easy and respectable ticket buying experience.
3. Marine Tours
Who wants to travel? We sure do. "Your World Management Partner" is the tagline of this next company, and their contributions to the traveling space sure do speak for themselves. The Marine Tourism market revenue was 58074 Million USD in 2019, and will reach 86520 Million USD in 2025 according to Digital Journal, and with more success expected, assume this partnership will last for the foreseeable future.
2. Coca-Cola
This author's personal favorite company on this list, Coca-Cola represents one of the top global brands in the world supporting our little club in Greece. The drink company posted that their net revenues grew 7% to $10.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022 alone. Coca-Cola's partnership ensures that there is a commitment to global expansion of the club in the coming decades, with an emphasis on engaging a foreign audience being a priority for seasons to come.
1. Bwin.
With GVC Holdings's Bwin, you find the heart and soul of the sponsorship game for the Thrileons. From 2018 to 2023 (this season), the company holds the official shirt sponsor for our basketball club. The Chief Commercial Officer of Olympiacos BC, Nikos Lepeniotis, stated when the deal was announced that "the decision of Bwin to promote its brand on the Olympiacos shirt over the next five years, is a great recognition of our efforts in recent years to make Olympiacos a global brand and extend our commercial activities beyond the borders of Greece." With overall company revenue of more than $1.3 billion in 2022, it seems as though this partnership has been extremely beneficial for all involved.
What's your favorite sponsor of the team this season? Are there any others you'd like to see the squad partner with in the future?

Ticketmaster seems to be a very interesting team to sponsor a of a sports team given that they are often responsible for distributing tickets. Do they happen to offer discounts or promo codes for the Olympiacos events? Coca-Cola is obviously another great sponsor because of their ability to market and sell their product at the Olympiacos events.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm aware of... it seems that they just have an exclusive deal with the company to sell tickets for them. I also agree about Coca-Cola, definitely a great source of marketing for the team.

ReplyDeleteI am very curious as to how they have made such good partnerships being a basketball club with very little revanues. Needless to say however, these partnerships must have strategic value, being that Ticketmaster, Coke, are highly respected and profitable firms. As mentioned Olympiacos needs these deals to survive, so I wonder the size or influence of these deals, or if they see a massive market in coming years. Regardless, very cool to see the massive companies investing in Greek basketball! Good work
DeleteIt seems that they have a tight fanbase that contributes to faith from the brands in the team in terms of turning potential customers into repeating ones. I'd like to watch that over the next decade to see how the team grows in terms of play and marketing ability.
DeleteI think that all of these sponsorships are interesting. The coca-cola one is a great idea because of their history and the ability that they have to sell to marketers. I also was shocked to see that ticketmaster was on this list. I wasn't aware that they do sponsorships with teams.
ReplyDeleteCoca-Cola's history is great for the team, but I'd also take a look at Marine Tours more closely, especially as the team continues to try and make their brand a global one in the next decade and beyond.
DeleteMy personal favorite is Bwin because they seem the most committed to transforming Olympiacos into a Euroleague powerhouse. Bwin is a good fit for the sports industry being a gambling company and I think that the team could get more exposure to viewers outside of Greece because of how big the gambling industry is. It is cool though to see the big name sponsors in Ticketmaster and coca-cola, as I did not think they would have sponsorships in the Euroleague.
ReplyDeleteBwin is a super nice pick up for the squad! The interesting thing about these big American companies is the emphasis on global basketball. The NBA leads the front with that, but the companies make a huge impact as well.
DeleteMy favorite is Bwin because it seems to be creating financial success for the team. I am pretty surprised there are such big sponsors such as Coca-cola and ticketmaster because I was not aware of their commitment Euroleague. I cannot think of many European sponsors off the top of my head for American sports teams so it is cool to see it from the opposite view! Awesome article providing insight into the sponsors.
ReplyDeleteThe commitment to the Euroleague definitely results from the big talent that has developed and grown over the past few decades. Wemby (the prospective No. 1 draft pick) is a 7'4 wonderkid from France. Luka Doncic came from Slovenia. Rudy Gobert, Joel Embiid, Giannis, Jokic, and more are perfect examples of this phenomenon. The American companies that get into this market now should see explosive returns in the future...
DeleteI find Bwin to be the most interesting sponsor to me. I am curious as to why an Austrian company would want to spot a Greek basketball club. I also like that this is not a company that everyone will know. So it is growth for the team and the company. I would love to see a company or sponsor that is located in Greece. I think it is important for a team to have sport locally as well as from major companies around the world.
ReplyDeleteSame argument as with Bryan's comment response, the European league market is growing. Basically copy and paste what I wrote up there to your comment, and that's the best explanation I have for it.
DeleteA sponsor that stood out to me the most was Bwin. Most memorably, they have sponsored Real Madrid when Ronaldo played for the club. I wonder what affect their sponsorship has on the club. It shows great commitment to the growth of the EuroLeague and basketball in Europe.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely shows that the popularity of sports outside of football are increasing
DeleteI think that Ticketmaster made a great move by sponsoring this team. Not only will they likely become the main source for Olympiacos fans to buy tickets, but they will be getting exposed to all the teams they play. Overall, I believe they made a good investment that will likely prove to have good returns in regard to their ticket sales in EuroLeague basketball.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Olympiacos are one of the staple powerhouses in EuroLeague basketball and have been the perennial Greek powerhouse for many years which will create great exposure for ticketmaster. As fans get used to purchasing through this site for these Olympiacos games, in Greece ticketmaster should see much success as this is the premier team. This is likely to expand into the EuroLeague as well as this team has been constantly making their mark and more fans will be exposed to purchasing their tickets through ticketmaster.
DeleteFor a team generating so little revenue in comparison to other professional sports teams, I think this is a great collection of sponsors. Coca-cola can bring in revenue from in-game sales and Ticketmaster can serve as the primary way that fans get their tickets.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. These two sponsors will help greatly as the areas that many teams make a large portion of revenue is from game day sales and these sponsorships help solidify their game day experience and sponsors for years to come. Coca-cola should see more exposure as this team continues to see success, as will TIcketmaster as you can see in our reply above about the exposure they can gain.
